GPCDC Partners with USDA & NRCS to Empower Landowners Across Alabama
At Greater Peace Community Development Corporation (GPCDC), our mission has always been rooted in equity, empowerment, and sustainability. Our continued outreach across Alabama in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) brings vital information and resources directly to socially disadvantaged and at-risk families who own land—including those navigating the complexities of heirs’ property.
Far too often, families who own land—especially Black, Indigenous, and rural landowners lack access to the tools, funding, and knowledge necessary to fully benefit from the land they own. Many have inherited property through generations, sometimes without clear title or documentation. These “heirs’ properties” can be a barrier to accessing government programs and funding.
Through our workshops, one-on-one support, and community partnerships, GPCDC is helping landowners understand their rights, their opportunities, and the programs available through NRCS to help preserve, restore, and use their land productively.
Through this initiative, families learn about:
- Conservation Planning – tailored support to improve soil health, water quality, and sustainable land use. • Funding Opportunities – including Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), and more.
- Technical Assistance – direct help from NRCS specialists on how to utilize land for agriculture, forestry, or conservation efforts.
- Heirs Property Solutions – guidance on how to address legal and structural barriers that prevent families from fully utilizing or securing ownership of inherited land.
By providing this support, we help landowners turn underused property into working assets—growing crops, raising livestock, planting trees, and building a legacy of sustainability and generational wealth.
This work isn’t just about land, it’s about legacy. By connecting families with these resources, we are helping to protect the historical and cultural significance of land passed down through generations while also positioning it as a source of income, food security, and long-term prosperity.
Whether it’s a small family plot or a larger piece of farmland or urban every acre matters. And with the right tools and support, every acre has the potential to change lives.
Join Us in the Movement
We invite landowners, community leaders, and advocates to join us in spreading the word. If you or someone you know owns land in Alabama and wants to explore ways to sustain, conserve, or grow through agriculture, we are here to help.
Together with USDA and NRCS, Greater Peace CDC is planting seeds, not only in the soil but in the hearts of communities across our state.
