The Heart of Greater Peace Community Development Corporation
At the Greater Peace Community Development Corporation (GPCDC), we’ve always believed in the power of the community. Since our founding, we’ve held fast to one simple yet profound truth: it takes a village.
Not just to raise a child, but to support a single mother, to guide a young leader, to feed hungry families, and to lift an entire community. And every day, in the heart of Opelika, Alabama, we witness this truth in action.
A Safe Start and Strong Foundation
For many families, GPCDC is the village they’ve prayed for. In Jordan’s Gate, families live in beautifully maintained homes surrounded by caring neighbors and supported by a network of staff who treat them like family.
The village continues to grow for Tiphany’s daughter, who began at our Child Development Center and now participates in our after-school and summer programs. This year, she’ll join our Summer Workforce Development Program, learning valuable job skills and preparing for her future — all with the love and guidance of her Greater Peace family.
A Place Where Dreams Take Root
From early childhood through young adulthood, we walk alongside the youth in our community every step of the way.
Students like Lauren Laundry and Kylin Perry are living proof. From attending our after-school and summer programs to volunteering as teen leaders, both flourished in the care of our village. They gained confidence, purpose, and the necessary tools to pursue higher education. Today, Lauren is a university ambassador and proud graduate of the University of Alabama, while Kylin is a senior at UAB, working in IT and serving as a sergeant in the Alabama National Guard.
Both credit Greater Peace for shaping their leadership, providing mentorship, and offering life-changing opportunities.
Programs That Empower
Our programs do more than fill time—they change lives. Whether we serve meals to children who might otherwise go hungry, offer tutoring and STEM education, take students on college tours, or prepare teens for the workforce, everything we do is guided by a commitment to empower, uplift, and inspire.
We serve over 200 youth annually; every child is seen, known, and celebrated.
The Power of Relationships
What makes our village strong isn’t just what we provide — it’s how we care. At Greater Peace, relationships are at the center of everything. Staff become mentors. Mentors become family. Children grow into leaders, and those leaders return to help the next generation.
That’s the beauty of an authentic village: it keeps giving back.
Join the Village
At GPCDC, we believe that when we come together as a village, we can move mountains. And while the challenges facing our community may be significant, the strength of our unity is even greater.
Whether you’re a parent, partner, donor, or volunteer, you are part of the village. And with your support, we will continue building stronger families, brighter futures, and a better tomorrow.
Because at Greater Peace, we’re not just building programs. We’re building a village — one child, one family, one life at a time.
