About Mrs. Clarinda Jones-Turner

Clarinda pursued her higher education at Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business and Marketing Education. Her academic foundation laid the groundwork for a career dedicated to education and community service.

She began her professional career as a teacher at Opelika Middle School (OMS), where she taught business, marketing, and computer applications to students in grades 6-8. During her thirteen-year tenure at OMS, Clarinda’s innovative teaching methods and dedication to student success were evident. She served in various capacities, including 4-H Sponsor, Cheerleading Assistant Coach, Black History Knowledge Bowl Coordinator, and Young Entrepreneurs Academy Instructor. She later piloted the Microsoft Certification course for middle school students. Notably, she led a successful fundraising campaign that raised $19,000 in just two weeks, enabling the cheerleaders to participate in the Walt Disney World Christmas parade.

In 2008, Clarinda began working part-time with the Greater Peace Community Development Corporation (GPCDC) as their Program Director, overseeing their STEM After School Program and Summer Educational Enrichment Program. Her commitment to community development led her to join the City of Auburn as its Organizational and Development Manager. In this role, she oversaw all employee relations events, training, and professional development for nearly 1,000 employees. Her leadership was recognized when she earned the Employee of the Month in December 2021. Additionally, she obtained her leadership certification from the Leading-Edge organization.

In 2022, Clarinda joined the GPCDC full-time as Executive Director, where she oversees all daily operations, including fundraising, grant writing, program development and expansion, and community outreach. Under her leadership, the GPCDC launched several initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, quality and affordable housing, vital programs, a food pantry available during holidays and school breaks, and workforce development programs.

Her efforts have led to significant improvements, including upgrading the Greater Peace Child Development Center’s interior, opening two new preschool classrooms, increasing funding through grant writing and donations, hiring additional staff, and partnering with various agencies and businesses to provide programs and housing across the state.

Clarinda’s dedication to the community has been recognized through several awards. In 2024, she received the City of Opelika’s Character Award and the Concerned Citizens’ Community Service Award from Opelika Citizens of Change.

Clarinda is married to Christopher Turner. Together, they have three children, James, Jada, and Kylin.
